Grandmaster B.M. Kim’s Tae Kwon Do is dedicated to fitness, family and education and believes in training their students to set and attain personal goals to reach their maximum potential. They stress the importance of both internal and external changes on the body from physical training and emphasize the use of the following daily to promote that way of living: thinking positively, doing good deeds, drinking green tea, and beginning each day with meditation.  Doing all of this will keep bodies, minds and spirits in good health and harmony because Tae Kwon Do is more than a sport, it is a philosophy. The ultimate goal of Tae Kwon Do is self-improvement through discipline of the mind and conditioning of the body and by using specialized training, concentration and confidence are developed while emphasizing respect and responsibility as well as expanding aerobic capacity, strengthening and toning muscles, increasing flexibility, and improving coordination and balance.

Many different programs are offered for a variety of students. Most students start in the basic program and as they progress they continue to follow Grandmaster Kim’s teachings at home, school, and with family and can qualify for the higher level Black belt program, Instructor Program (Junior, Teen, Adult), and Master Program. Programs for toddlers ages 1-3, Pee Wee ages 3-6, Children ages 7-12, and Adult ages 13+ are also offered.

Grandmaster Byung Min Kim, President and Founder, has achieved many accomplishments and is not only an internationally recognized competitor and coach but, he is also so much more – he is an inspiration to his students, advancing Tae Kwon Do as a philosophy and a way of life rather than just an after school activity.  He began his teaching career in White Plains 20 years ago and believes that the ultimate goal of martial arts training is enlightenment. When his students learn Tae Kwon Do, the knowledge he hopes to impart on them is how to make a better life for themselves and, by extension, for their family and friends. Steve Oto, an avid collector of comic books and original art for some 30 years, was a corporate/real estate attorney living in Westchester and commuting to Manhattan who had a crazy vision one day in the early 1990’s. On June 19, 1992, Steve and two friends opened Alternate Realties. They were “three geeks with a dream”. In a very specialized industry such as this, Alternate Realities has managed to stay in business long past many other comic book stores in the area. I personally chalk it up to Steve, his quirky attitude and all around good guy nature are like a magnetic force. Once you step in the store you are a friend for life. Alternate Realities was named Best Comic Book Store in Westchester Magazine in 2004 and Best Comic Book Store in Hudson Valley Magazine in 2005.

Alternate Realities carries comics, both old and new; magazines like Mad; trade paperbacks and hardcovers; action figures; statues and busts; gaming supplies for Yu-Gi-Yo, Magic, Dungeons and Dragons; and prints and posters to name some of the items that pack the store.

You have probably driven by Nana’s over the years with all intentions of stopping by. When you finally do stop in be prepared to spend quite some time inside. The first Nana’s store opened 30 years ago as a result of an antique shopping obsession.  After filling up an attic, and out growing two stores, the current building was purchased and still showcases the original store sign made by Nana’s son.

The eccentrically eclectic store is home to treasures both old and new. Cabinets are filled from floor to ceiling with hidden treasures waiting for that special eye to discover them. The walls hold antique paintings, frames and items too rare to name. Everything in the store from the doorknobs to the chandeliers is for sale so do not be afraid to ask!

The minute you step inside you will feel as if you have traveled back in time and since everything in the store is sold at bargain prices, you might leave feeling a pang of guilt that you have underpaid for your treasure. The staff will make you like family when they offer you a cup of coffee. Come in and enjoy this fun-filled store!

Established in 1981, The Fountain Diner is not a place to go for a quiet cup of coffee.  This diner is always busy, which says a lot about a place that has been in business for over twenty years. The staff is very welcoming, with a happy–to-be there attitude. Although the the diner is relatively big no matter what day or time you go, you will most likely have to wait for a table. The regular customers do not have a problem with the wait time since they know that the great service and good food make up for it.

The restaurant offers a wide variety of food, ranging from hot pressed paninis, pizzas, and wraps to fresh seafood plates and char-boiled chops. No matter what your selection is, be certain it will taste amazing!
